NYC: NYE 2016

Kuulei Akina

It's taken me such a long time to write about my epic trip to NEW YORK CITY...because it's really hard to find the words to describe this amazing adventure! 6 girls met up in the big city to explore and see just what this NYC has to offer. Well, we were in awe. We didn't really make plans. We just had a list of things to do. The main thing being Times Square for New Years. Other than that we made plans the night before. haha! To sum it up right now, I'll say it was freeezing (for me), so crowded, unpredictable, and just plain epic. I have a ton of photos to show you...

Ice skating in Central Park was magic.

Ice skating in Central Park was magic.

Mostly for my own reference, but here's a quick outline of our trip:

Dec. 26 - day after Christmas, fly to JFK.
Dec. 27 - arrive, walk around and eat, Central Park, pizza
Dec. 28 - stand in line for broadway, Rockefeller Christmas tree, see Fiddler on the Roof, snowed in Times Square
Dec. 29 - Chelsea market, One World tower, Eataly
Dec. 30 - explore the city, ice skating at Central Park, see Rockettes and Radio City Hall
Dec. 31 - arrive at Times Square at 11am, stand for 13 hrs, get on national TV, party people!, epic New Years watching the ball drop, tons of confetti
Jan. 1 - Brooklyn, Juliana's pizza, see Wicked
Jan. 2 - top of Empire State Building, Katz for lunch, Washington square park, Top of the Rock at sunset
Jan. 3 - Church at Manhattan LDS temple, top of One World, 9/11 museum, shopping at Times Square
Jan. 4 - fly home to HNL

View from One World looking towards Brooklyn. I LOVE that place.

We were screaming and chanting, getting everyone around us to join: "4 hours to go! 4 hours to go!"

So the highlight of the trip was New Years Eve at Times Square. Yes, we really stayed there for over 13 hours. Yes, there were so many people and it was dirty. Yes, we were so tired and hungry. No, we couldn't leave and come back. Once you leave, you are out. Luckily, no one had to go to the bathroom. Most of the people around us were sleeping and not happy. We were a little party of 6 girls dancing, singing, being really loud, and trying to get everyone else to get up and party with us. At 6pm the program started with some live music and different celebrity appearances. The cameras definitely liked us and kept coming back to catch us dancing and screaming....I mean we're a group of little island girls coming to the Big Apple for freakin New Years!! We were going craaaaazyyyy crazy. As it got dark, the jumbo screens and billboards still lit up the streets, we were given free hats and balloons, the magic started building as each hour countdown came. And then it was time, 59....58...57...56....the ball slowly dropped and Frank Sinatra started singing... "These little town blues, are melting away, I'm gonna make a brand new start of it, in old New York..." The confetti started falling from the rooftops. And it was unlike anything I've experienced when NYC exploded and cheered to welcome 2016. And then I kissed the most handsome man. OMG I lie.

The next highlight for me was Brooklyn. The bridge, the view, the street art, the pretty things, but most of all - the pizza! I <3 Brooklyn...

And now...here's a whole gallery of all my photos! I'm actually proud of these because behind every photo was this magical experience being in this big city that we fell in love with. If you have any questions about what we did, feel free to ask. If you have any suggestions for my next trip please let me know!!!
